CLAWSON, MI - Kurt
Hack announced today his intention to seek election at the upcoming
Mayoral race for the City of Clawson. Elections for this race,
along
with that of two other Council members, will be held on November
3rd.
Hack has previously held office on the Clawson City Council for four
years, two of which as Mayor Pro-Tem. His participation was
integral
to several City initiatives during his tenure there including the
rebuilding of 14 Mile Rd, on-street parking on Main St, renewed web
presence, and legislative efforts towards rebuilding the
downtown. All
of these intiatives, while sometimes controversial, have met with
success and have improved Clawson's ability to attract homeowners and
businesses.
Hack said today, "I am excited to get to work towards moving Clawson forward again. I feel that we have lost momentum in making Clawson competitive for new homeowners and businesses which directly translates into reduced property values. We should be leveraging the current property market to make ourselves even more attractive to those entering the market for the first time. In order to compete against our neighboring inner-ring suburbs we must differentiate ourselves from them by offering superior City services, transparency in government, and fiscal restraint so that we aren't pricing ourselves out of the market. In short, I am a firm believer in not letting a good crisis go to waste!"
When asked about the recent contention surrounding the current Mayor, City administration, and other City Council members Hack responded, "The position of Mayor has no more authority than any other Council member. I believe that there has been some overstepping of those bounds and poor communication. As a result, Council members and City staff may feel as though they are not being included in the necessary decision making processes or that their decisions are not being respected. Holding the office of Mayor is a position of leadership, but that leadership must include the ability to work with your peers, build relationships, and compromising when necessary to get things done."
Kurt Hack has worked for Guardian Industries in Auburn Hills for the last ten years as a manager in the information servies and engineering sectors.
